Who IS That Guy?

Hi! I’m going to tell you about myself; you have no say in the matter :)

My name is Geoff Edwards (were you paying attention when you started out on the first page? :) Before I tell you what I DO, let me tell you who I AM: I’m just your basic Midwestern guy, happily ensconced in the land of flat, where corn is sometimes all you can see. Especially when you’re on the highway. If you guessed “Indiana”, you’re right! I’ve lived here most of my life, but I was born to Midwestern-ness in Missouri, and I’m pretty happy with it.

Having lived for … umm … 48 years on this here planet, I’ve reached the point of my life where I finally realize what the best part of it is: childhood! :) Ahh, those days of innocence, when the excuse of, “I don’t KNOW how those dishes all managed to break themselves,” could actually WORK! I’m a little more responsible, now, but I refuse to grow up; there are too many cool things going on around us, and if you don’t keep your childlike wonder about you, you can miss it. I’m sorry if that scares some of you, but not sorry enough to give it up :)

In the meantime, I strive to treat people like … well, people. I look for the best in everybody, and I try not to be distracted by their flaws. I may be conscious of them, and sufficiently protect myself against them, but I see no good reason to dwell on them. I believe in the Golden Rule. I also believe that everyone should accept responsibility for their own actions, and get over it; I’m REALLY tired of people who have to blame SOMEONE for their problems, instead of admitting that they CHOSE the path that brought them to whatever part of their lives they don’t like. Hey, folks, you CAN change your mind, but don’t forget how you got there.

I’m something of an artist, but even I am not sure how close I am. I went to school for my talent, but got bored with it after a year. When I discovered computers, and that I could actually indulge my artistic side with them, imagine how happy this camper was!

As for what I DO: I’m a data wrangler for an international office products and services company. It’s a great job, I work with great people, and I get to help people do their jobs better, by making information available more easily to them. I got here by a long, winding path of retail jobs, moving my way quickly up through ranks, trying to make a positive impact in both my employees’ and my customers’ lives. Remember when you could actually get <help> in a store? I do, and I thank my bosses then for teaching me how to do it, and be proud of it. Thankfully, I’ve never had to ask anybody if they wanted fries with that (just sprinkles!). It all still comes down to one thing: satisfy the customer. The same thing applies to this website, too :)

Stay tuned for more vapid stream of consciousness on this same channel!
